Preparing for Your Fence Installation

What to Expect When You Partner With American Home Fences

We want your installation experience to be as smooth and stress-free as possible. To help you prepare, we’ve outlined a few key steps and tips to ensure everything goes off without a hitch.

Whether you’re in Dallas, Fort Worth, Plano, or beyond, here’s what you can do before installation day arrives.

Steps to Take Before Installation

Before installation begins, it’s important to verify your exact property lines. If you’re unsure about your property boundaries, we recommend reviewing your plat of survey or consulting with a licensed surveyor. Having this information upfront helps avoid disputes and ensures your fence is installed correctly.
If you live in a community with a Homeowners Association (HOA), be sure to review any neighborhood fence guidelines. Some HOAs have specific rules regarding fence height, material, color, and placement. We’re happy to help you gather the details you need for approval, but it’s a good idea to double-check early in the process.
Safety first! We’ll handle contacting Texas 811 to have underground utility lines marked before we dig. However, if you have any private lines (such as irrigation, gas grills, or invisible pet fences), it’s important to notify us in advance. Marking these lines can help prevent any accidental damage during installation.
Before your scheduled installation, please remove any obstacles along the fence line, such as outdoor furniture, play equipment, landscaping features, or debris. Clearing the area ensures our team can work efficiently and helps us avoid any accidental damage to your property.

During Installation

When installation day arrives, our professional crew will:

  • Double-check layout and measurements
  • Set posts with precision
  • Install panels, pickets, or rails according to your chosen design
  • Conduct a final walkthrough to ensure everything meets our high standards

We respect your property and aim to leave your yard neat and clean once the project is complete.

After Installation

Following installation, your new fence may require a short “settling period” depending on the material used (especially with wood fences, which naturally expand and contract with Texas weather).

We’ll also walk you through basic care and maintenance tips to help your fence look its best for years to come.
